West Bloomfield Sculptor's Works Chosen for UM-Dearborn Exhibit

The "Open Competition 2013" exhibit opens August 1.

Works by West Bloomfield sculptor Doug Cannell are included in "Open Competition 2013" at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Alfred Berkowitz Gallery August 1-28.

Cannell's sculptures, "Wound and Unwound" and "Aftermath", made of reclaimed steel and stainless steel, will be featured among other works chosen for this annual exhibition. Cannell works primarily in abstract forms fabricated from steel, and often contrasts organic and industrial elements.

The show was curated by the accomplished glass artist Mary Ellen Graham. Graham's comments about the works on exhibit are likely to be included at the opening reception on Aug. 1, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Best in Show and other awards will be announced at 6 p.m.
