Man Beats Oakland Co. Woman, Steals Her Credit Cards, Car With Her Daughter, 16: Police

The 58-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in serious condition, according to police.​

HOLLY, MI — A man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested last week after beating an Oakland County woman and stealing her credit cards and multiple cars, according to police.

The 58-year-old woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was listed in serious condition, according to police.

Joseph Matthew McDonough, 21, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder (10-year felony), unlawful driving away motor vehicle (4-year felony) and larceny in a building (4-year felony).

He was placed in the Macomb County Jail with a bond set at $10,000.

The 16-year-old girl was charged with assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder, unlawful driving away motor vehicle, larceny and interfering with a 911 call. She was placed at the Oakland County Children’s Village juvenile with a court hearing scheduled for March 25.

The attack happened at a home on Grange Hall Road in Holly at 1 p.m. on March 2, according to police.

The woman told officers that her 16-year-old daughter showed up at the home with her boyfriend, McDonough, who "violently" beat her and demanded her car keys, according to police.

McDonough and the 16-year-old girl then took the woman’s credit cards and personal property along with her car and fled the area, according to police.

Holly Police knew McDonough from previous police run-ins and knew of his connections to the Macomb County area. They entered the woman's car as stolen and alerted police in Oakland and Macomb counties.

On March 4, officers in Clinton Township spotted the stolen car and tried stopping it, but the driver sped away, according to police.

Officers later found the car abandoned in a parking lot and towed it away, according to police.

Between March 8 and March 10, two other vehicles were stolen from a gas station and party store in Holly, according to police.

Holly officers recovered store video that connected McDonough and the 16-year-old girl to both thefts, according to police.

On March 10, McDonough and the 16-year-old girl were arrested after fleeing and assaulting officers in Warren, according to police.

Officers recovered all three stolen cars and said they believe additional charges will be filed against both McDonough and the 16-year-old girl and possible accomplices in connection with the stolen cars and other crimes.
