Multiple Hurt, Including 10-Year-Old, In Oakland Co. Crash: Police

Police believe drugs played a role in the crash.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, MI β€” Multiple people were injured in a Wednesday crash in Oakland County, according to police.

The crash happened at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Highland Road and Cass Lake Road in Waterford Township, according to police.

Police said a Jaguar X-Type that was moving north on Cass Lake Road disregarded a red light while turning west onto Highland Road and struck a Ford Escape that was moving south on Cass Lake Road.

A 10-year-old, who was a rear seat passenger in the Escape suffered a serious head injury and was taken to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to police.

The 19-year-old driver of the Escape and a 22-year-old front-seat passenger were also taken to a nearby hospital for moderate injuries, according to police.

A 14-year-old rear-seat passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash and was released from the hospital, according to police.

The 17-year-old Waterford boy, who was driving the Jaguar, was taken to a nearby hospital for moderate injuries, according to police.

Officers found evidence of marijuana on the Jaguar's floorboard and believe the drug played a role in the crash. Police said a search warrant was obtained for blood analysis of the driver.
