Oakland County Woman Dies In 3-Car Crash: Sheriff

Investigators​ do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

WIXOM, MI — A Novi woman died after she was struck by a 94-year-old driver in a three-car crash that happened last week in Wixom, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened at 10:14 a.m. last Thursday on South Wixom Road at Sams Way, near Grand River in Wixom, according to the sheriff's office.

Police said the 59-year-old Novi woman was driving a Honda CR-V, which was stopped in traffic at Sam’s Way.

A 94-year-old Milford Township resident was driving a Nissan Versa south on South Wixom Road and smashed into the Honda, according to the sheriff's office.

The impact of the crash forced the Honda into a 2022 Ford F350, which a being driven by a 60-year-old Wolverine Lake resident, according to the sheriff's office.

After the crash, the Novi woman got out of her Honda and stood next to the driver's door, according to the sheriff's office.

That's when the Nissan accelerated forward and struck the Novi woman, trapping her under the car, according to the sheriff's office.

The Nissan then stopped "a short distance" from the initial crash site, according to the sheriff's office.

The Novi woman was taken to Ascension Providence Park Hospital in Novi, where she died from her injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

The 94-year-old driver and the 60-year-old driver were not injured in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

Police do not believe the elderly the driver intentionally struck the Novi woman.

"For reasons still under investigation, but not believed to be intentional, the Nissan Versa then accelerated forward,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. "The Nissan Versa struck the Honda CR-V again and ran over the driver."

The 94-year-old driver and the 60-year-old driver are cooperating with investigators.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Police did not release the victims names.
