Police Investigating 'Stranger Danger' Reports At Bus Stops For Oakland County School

Officials said a person was seen dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask near one of the bus stops.

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, MI β€” Police are investigating multiple possible stranger danger incidents in Oakland County, sheriff's officials said.

The incidents happened Thursday at two bus stops near M-59 and Duck Lake Road in Highland Township, officials said.

The bus stops are for students of Spring Mills Elementary School, which is located at 3150 Harvey Lake Road in Highland.

The first incident happened at 8 a.m. Thursday when officials said the suspect was parked in a car near one of the bus stops. One student described the car as gray, while another said it was a tan-colored van, officials said.

When the suspect got out of the car, officials said the students ran to a nearby house and alerted a parent. When the parent walked outside, the vehicle was gone, officials said.

A student also described seeing a person wearing all black and a ski mask while sitting in a red car parked at a different bus stop, officials said.

The suspect motioned for the student to approach the car, but the school bus had arrived and the car drove away, officials said.

Officials said the student reported the incident to the bus driver, who then alerted school officials.

School officials informed the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Milford police and White Lake police, who will all increase patrols along the bus route during student pick-up and drop-off times, officials said.

"Today’s incident is a reminder that safety begins with awareness," Oakland County Sheriff
Michael Bouchard said. "Please talk to your children about β€˜stranger danger’ and to trust their
instincts, stay alert and look out for one another. Together, we keep our community safe."
