2 Officers Shot, Suspect Apprehended In Southgate: Reports
Police are searching for a 20-year-old man who is believed to be the shooter.
SOUTHGATE, MI — Two Southgate police officers were shot Thursday at an apartment complex, according to multiple news reports, and a citywide shelter-in-place was lifted late Thursday after police say the suspect was apprehended.
The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. after officers responded to the Village on the Park apartments on Northline Road for a report of a person with a weapon, reports said. Director of Public Safety Joe Marsh said the officers made contact with the suspect on the second floor, where he began firing, hitting two officers in the lower legs, according to ClickonDetroit.
Both officers were in stable condition, WXYZ Detroit reported.

According to Fox Detroit, police have identified the shooting suspect as a20-year-old man, who was last seen near the Reserve apartment complex. He reportedly fled by jumping out a second-story window.
A person in custody was believed to be a friend of the suspect's, Fox Detroit reported.

The shelter-in-place order is in effect until further notice.
Although police initially released the suspect's name, Patch has removed it because police have not yet announced criminal charges against him.
