5 Things to Know About Poppy's Urban Garden in Wyandotte

Here's a look at the essential elements of Wyandotte's newest community garden.

People from all over Wyandotte have begun growing produce and plant-life at Poppy's Urban Garden located in a lot near the corner of First and Elm streets.

Joe's Hamburgers owner Sladnovnik founded Poppy's Urban Garden in June using funds from his non-profit organization Stars Shining Through.

Flower boxes lining the interior of the fenced-off lot held growing seedlings beginning to break the surface of the topsoil Monday morning.

Here's five things you need to know about Wyandotte's newest community garden:

  1. Poppy's Urban Garden belongs to the people of Wyandotte and runs on the honor system.
  2. Sladovnik owns the lot where the garden calls home.
  3. There's no charge or registration required to begin using Poppy's. Simply pop into Joe's Hamburgers and let Sladovnik know where you plan to plant--to avoid planting on top of other seeds.
  4. Poppy's is available to everyone during operating hours at Joe's Hamburgers; 10.30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday though Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
