12 Inches Of Snow Possible In Northland: MN Weather

DULUTH, MN — A winter storm warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for southern Cook and southern Lake counties, including Grand Marais, Two Harbors, and Silver Bay.

Duluth is under a winter weather advisory.

"Generally speaking it should snow with at least 2" for most," the National Weather Service said.

"The story is a little more complicated beyond that with several favorable ingredients to help enhance snowfall though a couple of big ones that also will detract from higher totals."

Northern Minnesota residents should be prepared for:

• Snowfall: Somewhere between 3 to 8 inches expected, depending on your location, with some areas possibly seeing up to 12 inches.
• Winds: Gusts up to 35 mph, reducing visibility.
• Timing: Snow begins late Saturday morning, with the heaviest snowfall Saturday afternoon into Saturday night (over 0.5 inches per hour at times).
• Impacts: Hazardous travel conditions are expected on MN-61 and MN-1 due to slick roads and reduced visibility.
• Safety tips: If traveling, carry flashlights, food, and water in case of emergencies.
