4 MN Counties Flip Red In Trump Vs. Harris Race: See Breakdown

Among those that Donald Trump flipped on Tuesday was the home county of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

MINNESOTA — Donald Trump flipped four Minnesota counties from blue to red in Tuesday's presidential election, showing gains since the 2020 election despite losing the state a third time.

According to preliminary vote totals, Vice President Kamala Harris won five counties outside the Twin Cities metro area. By comparison, in 2020, Joe Biden won nine non-metro counties.

Among those that Trump flipped on Tuesday was the home county of Harris' running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Walz and his family lived in Blue Earth County for 20 years. He taught at Mankato West High School before running for and winning a seat in Congress in the red-leaning district.

Blue Earth County

  • In 2024, Donald Trump won with 18,002 votes (49.40 percent)
    • Harris received 17,558 votes (48.18 percent)
  • In 2020, Joe Biden won with 18,330 votes (50.84 percent)
    • Trump received 16,731 votes (46.41 percent)

Carlton County

  • In 2024, Donald Trump won with 10,435 votes (50.13 percent)
    • Harris received 9,905 votes (47.59 percent)
  • In 2020, Joe Biden won with 10,098 votes (49.58 percent)
    • Trump received 9,791 votes (48.07 percent)

Nicollet County

  • In 2024, Donald Trump won with 9,540 votes (49.13 percent)
    • Harris received 9,441 votes (48.62 percent)
  • In 2020, Joe Biden won with 9,622 votes (50.31 percent)
    • Trump received 9,018 votes (47.15 percent)

Winona County

  • In 2024, Donald Trump won with 14,292 votes (51.41 percent)
    • Harris received 12,929 votes (46.51 percent)
  • In 2020, Joe Biden won with 13,333 votes (49.07 percent)
    • Trump received 13,227 votes (48.68 percent)

Although Harris and Walz won in only a minority of Minnesota’s counties, their victories in the four most populated counties — Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, and Washington — were enough to carry the state.

Statewide, Harris/Walz won 50.88 percent to Trump/J.D. Vance's 46.66 percent, for about a 4-point margin of victory. That was below Biden's 2020 victory of about 7 percent.
