742 Schools On MN’s Weekly Coronavirus Outbreak List

Minnesota is America's new "COVID-19 hot spot," with the state's rate of infections the highest in the U.S.

MINNESOTA — The number of schools on the Minnesota Department of Health’s weekly list of facilities with coronavirus outbreaks hit a new high Thursday, as the state deals with one of the worst case spikes in the U.S.

This week’s list included 742 Minnesota schools, 103 more than two weeks ago. The list has grown each week since Minnesota health officials started publishing it near the start of the 2021-22 school year.

More than 110 Hennepin County schools are listed as having coronavirus outbreaks, as well as 44 schools in Ramsey County, 43 in Anoka County and 40 in Dakota County.

A school is considered to have an outbreak when it reports five or more confirmed cases of the virus in students or staff who were in the building while infectious during the most recent two-week reporting period.

Defense Dept. To Send Medical Staff To MN Amid COVID-19 Surge

Schools on the list may not have ongoing transmission, according to MDH officials. Schools are removed from the list after 28 days without any new cases.
