Franken Disputes Report That He Will Resign

WASHINGTON, DC — Al Franken on Wednesday disputed a report that he will resign his Senate seat on Thursday. Minnesota Public Radio, citing a Democratic official who has spoken to the senator, reported Franken will resign Thursday amid numerous allegations of sexual misconduct and a flood of calls from Democratic lawmakers for him to step down.

"Not accurate," said a statement on Franken's Twitter account. "No final decision has been made and the Senator is still talking with his family. Please update your story."

Franken announced Wednesday that he would make a statement Thursday after two more women accused him of sexual misconduct.

At least seven women have accused the Minnesota Democrat of sexual misconduct, ranging from groping to unwanted touching to forcible kissing. The allegations began to come out in November when radio host Leeann Tweeden accused him of groping her during a USO event in 2006.

Franken has apologized for his behavior and said he "let a lot of people down." He's also agreed to participate in a Senate ethics committee investigation into his alleged conduct.
