Man Accused Of Stabbing Wife In Domestic Attack In Dakota County Town

FARMINGTON, MN — A man is facing attempted murder charges for stabbing his wife multiple times during a domestic assault at a home in a small Dakota County town, prosecutors announced.

Mehdi Badaoui, 52 of Farmington, was charged Thursday with one count of attempted murder in the first degree (premeditated) and one count of attempted murder in the second degree (with intent, not premeditated).

"The facts in this case are shocking and the terror the victim endured is unthinkable," said County Attorney Keena in a statement.

"I’m grateful to the Farmington Police Department and the first responders who provided life-saving aid. My thoughts continue to be with the victim as she recovers."

The Farmington Police Department was called to a residence at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, on a report of a domestic assault. Officers were told there was a woman in the home who was stabbed and could not move.

A witness within the residence led the officers to a bedroom where the victim, the wife of Badaoui, was lying on her side in a pool of blood, according to the criminal complaint.

While officers were treating the woman, they found a series of stab wounds, including a wound that needed a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, prosecutors stated.

Badaoui, who had blood on his hand, was located in the garage and taken into custody, according to authorities.

The witness reported that she had awoke that morning to yelling and observed Badaoui stab the woman, drag her through the kitchen and into the bedroom, the criminal complaint states.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Medical staff indicated 10 stab wounds were found.

Officers later recovered a bloodied pocketknife from the kitchen counter.
