MN Sled Dog Marathon Postponed Again Due To Warm Weather

This marks the second consecutive year the race has been impacted by warm weather.

DULUTH, MN — The organizers of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon have announced that the 2025 race will be postponed to March 2 due to a lack of snow and ice along the 300-mile course, creating hazardous conditions for sled dogs and mushers.

The marathon was originally scheduled for late January. It has been rescheduled in hopes for improved conditions.

This marks the second consecutive year the race has been impacted by warm weather.

"We are heartbroken that, once again, weather—a factor entirely out of our control—has impacted our plans," Mike Keyport — president of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon board — said in a news release.

"However, the safety of the dogs and mushers remains our unwavering priority, and we are determined to ensure that the rescheduled race continues to honor the spirit and legacy of the Beargrease."

"We are optimistic that by moving the race to March 2, we will be able to host an event that upholds the tradition and standards of the Beargrease," Keyport added
