MN Teens Killed, Injured After Driver Speeds On Highway: State Patrol

Two Minnesota teens were killed and a third is fighting for his life after a single-car crash on Saturday.

BIG LAKE, MN — Two Minnesota teenagers are dead and a third is fighting for his life after crashing in Big Lake on Saturday.

At about 2:45 p.m., a Big Lake police officer watched a vehicle going northbound on Highway 25 "in excess" of the posted speed limit near Tarrytown Road, according to the Minnesota State Patrol's report.

The officer — who was going southbound on the highway — turned around to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle for a speeding violation, authorities said.

The officer came upon a crash where the BMW had "left the roadway to the right and rolled," the patrol states. No other vehicles were involved. Conditions were reportedly dry at the time of the crash.

The two people who died in the crash were identified as:

  • The driver, Donovan Paul Gobel, 17, of Elk River
  • A passenger, Anthony Scott Krider, 17, of Elk River

The crash is still under investigation.
