Recalled Bratwurst May Contain Bits Of Plastic, FDA Says
Health officials issued a recall after consumers found pieces of plastic in the bratwurst, the Food and Drug Administration said.
MINNESOTA — Johnsonville is recalling nearly 23,000 pounds of cheddar bratwurst because the products may contain bits of hard plastic.
In a recall alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration, the Illinois-based company said the potentially contaminated bratwurst were sold in 10 states, including Minnesota, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The bratwurst were produced on Feb. 5, according to the alert. The following product is subject to recall [view label]:

- 19-oz. sealed firm tray packages containing five pieces of “Johnsonville BRATS CHEDDAR Bratwurst” with package code B9FOD.
The problem was discovered after Johnsonville alerted the FDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service that it had received two consumer complaints reporting hard plastic material found in the product.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury, the FDA said.

The recall was issued because FSIS is concerned the bratwurst may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
