Walmart To Close Another North Twin Cities Metro Store Later This Summer

The company says six other stores nearby will remain open, with four undergoing upgrades this year.

COON RAPIDS, MN — The Walmart store in Coon Rapids will permanently close on Aug. 29, the company announced in a Facebook post Tuesday.

"First, we want to sincerely thank you for choosing us as your place to shop and for being such an important part of our community," the store wrote.

"On August 29, 2025, this store location will permanently close. But don’t worry, we’re not going far! We’re excited to continue serving you with six Walmart stores within 10 miles — four of which are being remodeled this year to bring you faster, more convenient, and improved service."

Walmart said it will continue serving customers in the area through the following nearby locations:

  • Walmart — Brooklyn Park
  • Walmart — Blaine
  • Walmart — Fridley
  • Walmart — Andover
  • Walmart — Vadnais Heights

Four of those stores are currently being remodeled to improve speed, convenience, and service, the company said.

Previous Walmart closures in the Twin Cities include the Brooklyn Center Supercenter, which closed in April 2023, and the St. Paul Midway store on University Avenue, which shuttered in September 2019.
