Applications Open For ISD 196 Magnet Schools

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — Applications are open for families that wish to enroll their child in one of ISD 196's magnet schools for the 2022-23 academic year.

Applications for the elementary magnet schools are open until Jan. 5 and applications for Valley Middle School of STEM are open until Feb. 9, the district said.

The district's five elementary magnet schools are:

• Cedar Park Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) School, Apple Valley
• Diamond Path Elementary School of International Studies, Apple Valley
• Echo Park Elementary School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology, Burnsville
• Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science, Eagan
• Oak Ridge Elementary School of Leadership, Environmental and Health Sciences, Eagan

The district's magnet middle school is Valley Middle School of STEM.

ISD 196 said it offers a K-12 STEM pathway that includes Cedar Park and Echo Park elementary schools for grades K-5, Valley Middle for grades 6-8 and Apple Valley Senior High School for grades 9-12. The school of Environmental Studies is an environmental magnet school for juniors and seniors in the district, ISD 196 said.

Enrollment for the magnet schools is determined by lottery and there is limited space available in each grade level at each school, the district said. The lotteries will be held after the application deadline and parents will be notified by the end Jan.(elementary) or Feb.(Valley Middle) if their child got in, according to the district.

Students that didn't get in will be placed on a waiting list, the district said.

Students who live in the district but farther than a mile from their selected school or 1.5 miles from Valley Middle will receive transportation, the district said.
