AV Police Give Tips To Prevent Catalytic Converter, Vehicle Theft

The police department said that catalytic converter theft and theft from vehicles is an issue in the Twin Cities, particularly Apple Valley.

APPLE VALLEY, MN — Apple Valley Police Department shared tips in an email notification about how to prevent catalytic converter theft, as well as theft from vehicles.

Both catalytic converter theft and general theft from vehicles plague the Twin Cities, particularly Apple Valley, the police department said.

The police department shared these tips to prevent theft, and encourages residents to share them with family and friends:

  • Park vehicles inside a garage whenever possible. Always close overhead garage door overnight.
  • If you are unable to park inside overnight, park in well-lit areas.
  • Always lock vehicle doors when leaving vehicle unattended for any period of time and remove all valuables, including garage door openers when parked at your residence.
  • Watch for suspicious activity around vehicles including the distinct sound of grinding metal. Call 911 immediately to report anything unusual.
