Car Race Falls Short of Fundraising Goal for Food Shelves

According to a report from Thisweek newspapers, the race track event cost too much to put on and didn't sell enough tickets.

The goal for this year's Race for Hunger Mayor's Cup, in which local mayors and city council members raced stock cars for charity, was to raise $10,000 for local food shelves. But when all was said and done, the event ended up with less than $800 to donate, according to a Thisweek newspapers story.

One dollar from each of the 788 tickets sold is slated to benefit food shelves.

Organizer Dennis Barlau told Thisweek the event fell short because of the $10,000 cost to rent the track at Raceway Park in Shakopee, as well as ticket-printing costs and lack of ticket sales.

Barlau's company lost about $5,000 on the event, the story says.
