Five Things You Should Know Today: August 1
The first day of August will be sunny. In fact, the first week of August is going to be sunny. Did someone say "dog days?"

- The National Weather Service is predicting partly sunny skies today, with a high near 90, and light southerly winds. There’s a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, mainly after 1 a.m., and lows in the mid-70s.
- Angel’s Wings is hosting a from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rosemount American Legion. The event is a benefit for the Twin Cities Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure Aug. 19-21. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children.
- Two fun events for kids ages 4 through 6 today in Rosemount’s Central Park: from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., featuring non-competitive outdoor games and sports, and from 1 to 3 p.m., featuring adventure games, activities, crafts and other special events. There is a fee for both camps.
- The Rosemount City Council meets tonight at 7:30 in City Hall. On the agenda: lots of agreement and contract discussion for improvements of Connemara Trail, the Marshes of Bloomfield and Prestwick Place. The council also will recognize Girl Scout Gold Award winners.
- Today is the fourth anniversary of the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis. A memorial to the victims, the Remembrance Garden, will be dedicated at 5:10 p.m. in Gold Medal Park. Scheduled speakers include Gov. Mark Dayton and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. Thirteen people died in the rush-hour collapse, and another 145 were injured.
