Five Things You Should Know Today: August 16

Rain is back in the forecast today, but not until this afternoon. Get your errands done early.

  1. The National Weather Service is predicting partly sunny skies this morning, with a high near 82, and then a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Light southerly winds will increase to 11 to 14 mph. More showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight before 1 a.m., with as much as a half-inch possible and a low near 64.
  2. If you hit the today, pay particular attention to the tomatoes and the sweet corn, both of which are at their peak (and it’s been a great year for both). The market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. at 13885 Robert Trail S.
  3. The Rosemount City Council meets at 7:30 tonight in City Hall. On the agenda: consideration of a liquor license amendment for Fireside Restaurant, and a request by the Pulte Group to approve a preliminary plat and a master development plan for the Marshes of Bloomfield.
  4. The Rosemount Port Authority meets at 6 p.m. in City Hall. The agenda includes discussion of redevelopment of the former Continental Nitrogen (CNR) property and a draft economic development program.
  5. August 16, 1969, was the second day of the Woodstock festival in Bethel, N.Y. Among the acts that performed on the day:  John Sebastian, Santana, Canned Heat, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Sly and the Family Stone, the Who and Jefferson Airplane. Not a bad lineup.
