- There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Skies will become partly sunny after that, with a pleasant high of 79 and calm winds. And we’ll have some good sleeping weather tonight, with a low around 56 and light north winds.
- Ever wondered what it’s like to be a pet? Find out today at from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dakota County Library in Apple Valley. Representatives of the Animal Humane Society will explain how your pet’s behavior can help you anticipate its needs. The program is free and open to everyone.
- If you were planning to head to Lakeville’s Orchard Lake Beach today – make a new plan. because of high levels of E. coli bacteria in the water. Officials plan to test the water daily until the bacteria levels are acceptable for public swimming.
- A sponsored by the Family Martial Arts Academy begins at 11 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. today at 780 S. Plaza Drive in Mendota Heights. The event will feature games, activities and food, and is free.
- The 2011 Minnesota Renaissance Festival kicks off this weekend in Shakopee. This weekend’s theme is Italian Carnivale; the festival runs every Saturday and Sunday (and also Sept. 30) through Oct. 2.
