Five Things You Should Know Today: June 28

The sun returns today, just in time for you to pick up some fresh produce at the farmers market.

  1. Today’s the day for outdoor activities, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for sunny skies with a high around 75, and light winds from the northwest. Get out and hit the garden or take the dog for a walk.
  2. It’ll also be a good day to hit the , which runs from 2 to 6 p.m. today in the Rosemount Community Center parking lot at 13885 Robert Trail S.
  3. Minnesota’s weather hasn’t always been so ideal on this day. On June 28 and 29, 1975, two huge tornadoes, each more than three-quarters of a mile wide, touched down near Moorhead, and on June 28 four years later, 16 tornadoes were reported statewide in less than seven hours – one of the worst tornado outbreaks in state history.
  4. On June 28, 1996, St. Paul native Charles M. Schulz – the creator of “Peanuts” – got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  5. Wake me up before you go-go: On this day in 1986, Wham! made its farewell concert appearance in London’s Wembley Stadium. Surprise guest Elton John showed up in a clown suit to sing a song, then returned later to perform “Candle in the Wind” with George Michael.
