- Has summer finally arrived? Keep your fingers crossed. Today’s National Weather Service forecast calls for a high near 82 and light southwest winds from 11 to 14 mph.
- Tamora Pierce, bestselling author of fantasy books for young adults, will at the Robert Trail Library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today. The event is free and open to the public.
- John Vessey was born in Minneapolis on this day in 1922. Vessey, who lied about his age to join the Minnesota National Guard in 1939, would go on to fight in North Africa and Italy during World War II, earning a Bronze Star and a battlefield commission as an officer. He won a Distinguished Service Cross in Vietnam and eventually served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Reagan from 1982 to 1985.
