"This is a great opportunity to get wholesale prices on bare root plants to fill the space in your yard left by a diseased tree removal, buckthorn removal, or where you would just like to add some shade or habitat," according to an email from Byron.

More information and an order form are available on the city's website

Rain Barrel and Compost Bin Sale

The Recycling Association of Minnesota is selling discounted compost bins and rain barrels. To order or find an event where they'll be sold, visit the Recycling Association's website

Diseased Tree Inspection

City forestry staff can inspect your trees for diseases like oak wilt and Dutch elm disease, or the emerald ash borer insect. If they are present, it will be required that they're removed, but you could qualify for the tree removal cost share program.

Note: Apple Valley natural resources staff are recommending against pruning of oak trees, as oak wilt is likely to be prevalent this year.

Buckthorn Removal

You can check out buckthorn pulling devices from Apple Valley Natural Resources for a small, refundable deposit. Go here for more information about the program, as well as buckthorn and disposal options.
