ISD 196 Proposes Attendance Area Adjustments

The adjustments would ease current and projected overcrowding at Rosemount Middle and High Schools.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — ISD 196 is proposing adjustments to middle and high school attendance areas.

The adjustments are to ease current and project overcrowding at Rosemount Middle and High Schools, the district said. If approved, the adjustments would use space at other schools within the district beginning in the 2022-23 school year, ISD 196 said.

Rosemount High School has a capacity for 2,115 students and current enrollment is 2,445, the district said. The school's total enrollment is projected to grow to over 2,600 in the next three years, according to the district.

Rosemount Middle School's capacity is 1,180 students and current enrollment is 1,220, the district said. In three years, enrollment is predicted to grow to 1,335 students, according to the district.

The adjustments would move the outermost parts of Rosemount High School's attendance area to Apple Valley, Eastview and Eagan High Schools, the district said. 600 students live in this area, according to the district.

Parts of Rosemount Middle School's attendance area would move to Dakota Hills and Scott Highlands Middle Schools, and part of Scott Highlands' attendance area would move to Falcon Ridge and Valley Middle Schools, according to the district. 380 students live in this area, the district said.

Families will have the choice of enrolling at either their current attendance-area school or the new one, the district said. Transportation will be provided to both the new and current attendance-area schools, according to the district.

Informational meetings will be held:

  • October 18, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Rosemount High School's Performing Arts Center
  • Monday, October 18, 7:30-8:30 p.m., at Scott Highlands Middle School's cafeteria
  • Tuesday, October 19, 5:30-6:30 p.m., at Rosemount Middle School's cafeteria

These recommendations will be presented as new business at the Nov. 8 school board meeting, and be presented for approval at the Dec. 13 meeting, the district said. Final decisions are expected to be made around January 2022, according to the district.
