Man Indicted In Fatal Lakeville Shooting

LAKEVILLE, MN — The Richfield man accused of fatally shooting Cortney Grace Henry, his ex-girlfriend, June 22, 2021 outside a Lakeville daycare facility, has been indicted by Dakota County Grand Jury, according to a news release by Dakota County Attorney Kathryn Keena.

Atravius Joseph Weeks, 32, was indicted of murder in the first degree (domestic abuse), murder in the first degree (premeditation), and murder in the second degree (intentional), according to the news release.

His first court appearance on this indictment will take place in Hastings this week, officials said.

Weeks is currently in custody in Dakota County Jail with $2 million bail (with conditions) which was set up at his initial court appearance June 24, officials said.

When officers first found Weeks in connection with a violation of an Order of Protection against a separate woman in Belle Plaine, he was carrying a firearm and was covered in blood, police said. He also told police that he had shot himself in the head, police said.

Police said that Weeks told them, "I just killed my best friend," while they treated his forehead wound and waited for medics. Weeks told officers the location of the shooting and identified the victim as Henry, saying he shot her seven times, police said.

Police said they learned from a witness that Weeks and Henry had recently broken up.
