No-Wake Zone Announced For Mississippi River In Dakota County

HASTINGS, MN — State and county authorities announced Thursday a temporary "no-wake zone" on the Mississippi River.

"The surging water level is presenting strong currents and large, floating debris posing danger on the waterway," the Dakota County Sheriff's Office said. "Recreational boaters are encouraged to monitor water levels at the website below for current conditions."

The no-wake zone begins near the Interstate 494 bridge in South St. Paul and goes to the Dakota County/Goodhue County border at river mile marker 807.

The river is expected to reach major flood level and crest south of the Hastings Lock and Dam 2 at more than 20 feet on Sunday, authorities said.

The temporary no-wake is in effect immediately and will remain so until the water level returns below 15 feet at Hastings Lock and Dam 2, according to officials.
