Thousands of American military veterans from around the world, in town for the American Legion's national convention, spent Monday in Apple Valley for the convention's annual 4 Corners reception.

Apple Valley Post Commander Lowell Huber said he expected between 2,000 and 4,000 veterans throughout the day. One prominent attendee was Fang A. Wong, the man who should be voted the American Legion's next national commander on Thursday.
Huber said Apple Valley hosted the event in 1994 when the convention was last in Minneapolis, and when it comes back for the 100th event in seven years, he hopes Apple Valley will be chosen as the four-corners site again.

Minneapolis also was the site of the very first national convention, he said.
The name for the 4 Corners event comes from the reference to the region of the U.S. where the corners of four states—Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah—meet.
Legion delegates from each of those states set up tables at the party on Monday and provided drinks and snacks to the attendees.
