Rosemount Man Charged with Receiving Stolen Property

A Rosemount man has been charged with receiving stolen property after police say they caught him carrying a stolen laptop computer across a Rosemount parking lot in July.

Dustin James Grady, 19, faces a felony count of receiving stolen property, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, a Rosemount police officer on routine patrol spotted Grady and a 17-year-old boy walking through the Cub Foods parking lot just before 2 a.m. on July 9.  

Grady was carrying a laptop, and the juvenile – described as having slurred speech, bloodshot and watery eyes and having trouble standing without swaying – was carrying a guitar case, the complaint says.

Both were given breath tests, which showed that they were both intoxicated, according the complaint. Police called the 17-year-old’s mother, who arrived to take him home.

Grady told police that the laptop belonged to a 16-year-old friend. However, when police turned it on, the login screen came up as “JBDV Sales.”

Police checked the business name and found that had been the victim of a 2008 burglary in which a number of computers were taken, according to the complaint.
