UPDATE: Winter Storm Could Bring Snow, Sleet, Rain Combo to Apple Valley

The south metro could see snow transition to sleet and rain Tuesday evening, making roads slick.

2:45 p.m. Tuesday: The National Weather Service still puts Apple Valley and the rest of Dakota County in its winter storm warning area, but the forecast now calls for one to four inches of snow for the area and most concern for possible sleet and freezing rain.

As of Tuesday morning, Apple Valley and Dakota County were under the National Weather Service's winter storm warning, in effect for east-central Minnesota and south through parts of Wisconsin from noon Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The heaviest snowfall of the projected four to 10 inches is expected in the north metro and extending north from there. In the south metro and extending further south, it's more likely that the storm will start as snow, but transition to sleet and then rain or freezing rain that could make roads slick, according to the NWS.

Precipitation is expected to transition back to snow Wednesday morning.

Winds could be from 15 to 25 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

A blizzard warning is in effect for the west-central part of the state.
