1. KB101 among finalists for NAB Crystal Radio Award (bemidjipioneer.com) — Bemidji’s own KB101 has been named a finalist for the 2026 NAB Crystal Radio Awards, recognizing its community service and lifesaving coverage during this summer’s severe storms. Station leaders credit Bemidji listeners and the broader region for sticking with them as staff worked around the clock to provide critical updates and connection. The winner will be announced in March 2026.
   

2. Bemidji grandmother charged with domestic assault, child endangerment in unsanitary home (valleynewslive.com) — A Bemidji woman has been charged after authorities say a child in her care was assaulted and living in a home with severe unsanitary conditions on 1st Street East. Deputies reported burning lungs from the air inside, and the child has been placed in temporary social services custody while the case proceeds in Beltrami County District Court.
   

3. Five new Moorhead Police Officers sworn in (jackfmfargo.com) — A Bemidji native and Bemidji State University graduate, Officer Martin McClain-Hayes, is among five new officers sworn into the Moorhead Police Department, bringing the force close to full strength. The chief says 19 officers have joined since August, easing staffing shortages, and introduces a new Public Safety Communications Coordinator to improve outreach. Each new hire’s background and interests are briefly profiled.
   

4. Heim Log Homes gives trees lost in Bemidji storm a second life (bemidjipioneer.com) — After the devastating June 21 storm that toppled millions of trees in Bemidji, a local family business, Heim Log Homes, stepped in to clear damaged trees from homes, parks, and neighborhoods at no charge. They salvaged more than 100 logs from places like Diamond Point Park, repurposing them into cabins and home features while helping residents avoid steep cleanup bills and speeding the community’s recovery.
