South Twin Cities Metro Closures You Should Know About This Weekend
There are major closures that motorists in the Twin Cities area should know about, particularly if you're in the south metro.
TWIN CITIES, MN — There are major closures that motorists in the Twin Cities area should know about this weekend, particularly if you live in the south metro.
Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, June 21 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 24, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will close northbound Interstate 35W between Interstate 494 and 76th Street, southbound I-35W between Highway 62 and 82nd Street, and eastbound I-494 between Highway 100 and I-35W.
This weekend's closures are necessary so crews can demolish and remove the eastbound I-494 bridge over I-35W.

During this closure, motorists traveling in the area can use the following regional detours:
- Northbound I-35W detour: Eastbound I-494 to northbound Highway 77 to westbound Highway 62 to northbound I-35W
- Southbound I-35W detour: Eastbound Highway 62 to southbound Highway 77 to southbound I-35E to southbound I-35
- Eastbound I-494 detour: Northbound Highway 100 to eastbound Highway 62 to southbound Highway 77 to eastbound I-494
Following this weekend's closure, the ramp from westbound I-494 to southbound I-35W will remain closed through early August, state transit officials said.

At that time, motorists can use westbound I-494 to southbound Highway 77 to southbound I-35E to southbound I-35 as a detour.
The ramp from eastbound I-494 to northbound I-35W will also remain closed through November.
The detour for this closure is eastbound I-494 to northbound Highway 77 to westbound Highway 62 to northbound I-35W.
