The Heart of the City Race, a registered 501c3 charity, has a compelling mission that goes beyond the confines of a foot race. Established with a clear purpose in mind, this organization is dedicated to supporting initiatives that empower individuals to enhance their well-being, combat childhood hunger, and navigate through life's challenges. In doing so, their efforts ripple outward, ultimately resulting in stronger and more resilient communities where children and their families thrive.

The Heart of the City Race aims to make a positive impact on children and their families. Part of their charitable efforts supports the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, Kids Feeding Kids program. By doing so, they contribute to ending childhood hunger and enhancing the well-being of youth in the Twin Cities, all while strengthening their communities.

Adding an exciting element to the annual Heart of the City Race, the organization values excellence. Male and female runners who secure the top positions in each race category—1st, 2nd, and 3rd place—stand to win cash prizes. This incentive not only elevates the competitiveness of the event but also underscores the Heart of the City Race's commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance.

Behind the Heart of the City Race lies a poignant origin story. In 2013, tragedy struck when one of the race's founders, Trish Wehling, lost her daughter Jordan in a devastating car accident. Jordan, at just 18 years old, had been a passionate volunteer for the Heart of the City Races. Her belief in the race's direct impact on children in need was unwavering. In 2014, Trish honored her daughter's memory by rallying 130 family and friends to "Run for Jordan" at the Heart of the City race. This heartfelt gesture showcases the organization's deeply rooted commitment to turning personal grief into a powerful force for good, making a meaningful difference in the community through its charitable contributions.

The 12th annual Heart of the City Race happens on September 9th, 2023. The schedule is packed with excitement, from the early morning check-in to the exhilarating races and the heartwarming Kids' Fun Run, all leading up to the Awards Ceremony. This event is not just about running; it's about coming together as a community to support a noble cause.
