Burnsville-Born Actress Nominated for Second Tony Award

Laura Osnes, who has performed in theaters all around the south metro, earned her second Tony Award nomination for her role as Cinderella.

Broadway star Laura Osnes earned her second Tony Award nomination on Tuesday for her work in the title role of “Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”

The Burnsville native landed her big break in 2007 by winning the role of Sandy in the reality-TV Broadway audition program, "Grease: You’re the One that I Want!"

She performed on the stage of the Eagan Community Theatre as a child; at the Children’s Theatre CompanyGuthrie Theater and Ordway Center for the Performing Arts during her middle school and high school years; and in the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre after graduation.

At Eagan High School, she performed in about 15 theater productions.

“She is the total package in every way,” her Eagan acting teacher Denny Swanson told Patch in May 2012. “You get very, very few of her caliber.”

Osnes was also nominated for a Tony in 2012 for her role as Bonnie in "Bonnie and Clyde."

In “Cinderella,” Osnes told the New York Times, “I’m kind of playing myself, which is awesome.”
