Burnsville Chess Team 2nd At Conference, Moves On To State

The team consists entirely of freshmen and was led at conference by Mason Pederson (3rd) and Jake Schoenbauer (4th).

BURNSVILLE, MN —The Burnsville High School chess team finished second at the South Suburban Conference Championship Tournament last weekend at Eastview High School in Apple Valley.

According to the school, it was the program's best finish in the conference in many years.

The team, which consists entirely of freshmen and was the youngest group at the conference tournament, moves on to the 2022 Minnesota Scholastic Championship, which will take place this weekend at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

Individually, Burnsville freshman Mason Pederson finished third overall at conference, while teammate and fellow freshman Jake Schoenbauer was fourth.

The Burnsville team also includes Owen Krick and Aiden Callenius, both freshmen, and is coached by Dane Zagar.
