Burnsville Decides To Accept Opioid Settlement Funds: Report

BURNSVILLE, MN — Burnsville City Council voted Tuesday to join other Minnesota cities in the settlements of opioid lawsuits-a decision that will bring the city $1.1 million for addiction treatment and prevention, according to a report by Southwest News Media.

City Council voted 3-2 to reject the funding last month, the report said. Councilmember Dan Kealey originally voted to reject the funds but changed his vote Tuesday in favor of accepting them, the publication reported.

The two who maintained their opposition to accepting the funding were Cara Schultz and Vince Workman, according to the report.

Burnsville's Mayor Elizabeth Kautz said that while there isn't an official spending plan, she hopes the money will buy social worker's for the mental health unit in the city's police department, the report said.
