Burnsville Kindergarten Teacher Is This Seasons' 'Bachelorette'

Michelle Young teaches kindergarten at Echo Park Elementary.

BURNSVILLE, MN — Michelle Young, a Minnesota native who teaches kindergarten at Echo Park Elementary in Burnsville, is the next star of "The Bachelorette."

Young was chosen as the next star of the franchise after fans fell in love with her during "The Bachelor" season with Matt James. She is only the third Black woman to be chosen for the Bachelorette, which first premiered in 2002.

Young — a Woodbury High School graduate — made the Star Tribune's all-metro first team for basketball in 2011. She went on to play Division I basketball at Bradley University in Illinois.

"I was never the girl invited to cute dates at the apple orchard in the fall," she says in the trailer, which features shots of downtown Minneapolis and CHS Field in St. Paul. "I was the girl picked last for prom but the first for basketball."

Much of the upcoming season will indeed take place in Minnesota, notes the Star Tribune.
