Burnsville Man Accused of Rampaging Through Home

Taveres Justin Burrows is charged with criminal damage to property and interfering with an emergency call.

A Burnsville man has been charged with criminal damage to property after authorities say he became enraged when he found another man in his ex-girlfriend’s home last weekend and destroyed televisions, furniture and a computer monitor.

Taveres Justin Burrows, 25, faces a felony count of criminal damage to property, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He is also charged with interfering with an emergency call, a gross misdemeanor which carries a maximum penalty of 1 year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint against Burrows, Burnsville police were called to a home on Chowen Bend in Burnsville on Sunday morning. The victim told police that Burrows became upset when he saw another man there and began to yell at her.

The victim told Burrows that she was going to call police, and Burrows grabbed her cell phone and began rampaging through the home, according to the complaint.

“Burrows smashed numerous flat-screen televisions, a computer monitor, a glass table and dressers in three different bedrooms,” the complaint says. “Burrows then went outside and, using a hammer, broke the five separate windows of a vehicle.”

Police say the value of the destroyed property is more than $5,000.

The complaint says Burrows left the home before officers arrived, but police spotted him and stopped his car. His hands were bloody and he had suffered extensive injuries, according to the complaint, and paramedics were called to take him to the hospital.

According to the complaint, Burrows admitted causing the damage and told police that he was “very upset.”

An omnibus hearing in Burrows’ case is scheduled for Aug. 8 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
