Garage Gets $93K Grant from Private Foundation
The teen center and concert venue plans to add staff, programming with the funds.
The Garage has come into a sudden windfall: The Otto Bremer Foundation recently awarded $93,000 to the city's teen center.
The influx of funds comes at a critical moment for leaders at the Garage, who were in 2012 as independent funding sources dried up and the city trimmed costs. The grant will extend over a two-year period — apportioning $46,800 per year to increase staffing and programming at the facility.
Specifically, the money will be used to offer an additional day of after school activities. Currently, the Garage is open for after school programs Monday through Wednesday. Thanks to the foundation, the Garage will now be open on Thursdays as well.

In addition, the award also includes up to $60,000 in matching funds for any improvements to the building on Civic Center Drive, which could allow the Garage to add restrooms, multipurpose space and a kitchen.
