Gideon Pond Elementary Added To MDH's COVID-19 Outbreak List
Burnsville now has five schools on the list, amid a surge in the omicron variant.
BURNSVILLE, MN — Gideon Pond Elementary School was recently added to Minnesota Department of Health's list of schools that have had recent COVID-19 outbreaks.
79 schools in Dakota County are on the list, amid a surge of the omicron variant.

Five Burnsville Schools are currently on the list:
- Echo Park Elementary School
- Reported between 5-9 cases between Oct. 3-16, 5-9 cases from Oct. 31-Nov. 13, 5-9 cases Nov. 14-27 and 5-9 cases Nov. 28-Dec. 11. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.
- Gideon Pond Elementary School
- Reported between 5-9 cases from Nov. 14-27. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.
- William Byrne Elementary School
- Reported between 5-9 cases between Oct. 31 and Nov. 13 and 5-9 cases from Nov. 14-27. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.
- Joseph Nicollet Middle School
- Reported between 5-9 cases Oct. 31-Nov. 13 and between 5-9 cases Nov. 14-27. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.
- Burnsville High School
- Reported between 10-19 cases from Oct. 31-Nov. 13 and 5-9 cases from Nov. 14-27. The school remains on the list and MDH said it will post more information when it is available.

A school has an outbreak when it reports five or more confirmed cases of the virus in students or staff who were in the building while infectious during the most recent two-week reporting period.
"School buildings listed may not have ongoing transmission," MDH noted. "School buildings that have not reported a new case for 28 days will be removed. If five or more cases are reported in a school building in a subsequent 2-week period, they will once again be listed."
