Police said officers had already broken up several fights between two groups flashing gang signs earlier that evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers heard gunshots coming from the west side of the school.

Bystanders directed officers to a black Toyota Camry. The two men, Abdiwahab and Ali, were removed from the vehicle and detained, according to authorities.

As officers took them into custody, a bystander shouted, "Ksoe, you missed. You dumb ass. You missed." Investigators later learned that Ali is known by the nickname "Ksoe," according to the criminal complaint.

Inside the vehicle, police found a handgun with an extended magazine under the front passenger seat and a spent shell casing on the driver’s side floorboard. Additional casings were found nearby on the street, and a bullet fragment was lodged in the headlight of a parked car.

During the investigation, two witnesses told officers they had been in a vehicle directly behind the Camry. They reported that the Camry had been driven recklessly and nearly struck another vehicle, according to the criminal compalint.

They then watched a person approach the passenger side of the car and attempt to punch it. Moments later, a gun barrel emerged from the front passenger window, and shots were fired, according to police.

Abdiwahab told police he did not fire a gun and denied knowing how a gun ended up in the vehicle, the criminal complaint states, and he also stated that his passenger was known to him only as "Ksoe."

DNA swabs of the gun and both suspects were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for forensic analysis.

Both men remain in custody at the Dakota County Jail.

Judge Karen Asphaug set bail at $150,000 without conditions ($75,000 with conditions) for Abdiwahab and $200,000 without conditions ($100,000 with conditions) for Ali. Abdiwahab is scheduled to appear in court on June 25 at 1:30 p.m., while Ali is set to appear on June 24 at 1:30 p.m.

County Attorney Keena thanked the Burnsville Police Department for their work on the investigation.
