Man Arrested in Burnsville Allegedly Chased Others with Knife, Baseball Bat

An Apple Valley man has been arrested for allegedly chasing after two men with a knife, then a baseball bat, during a roadside confrontation.

Liban Muhumed Mohamed, 23, has been charged with making terroristic threats, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and thousands in fines. he also faces two misdemeanor charges for fifth-degree assault. 

The incident in question occurred on Aug. 11, around 3:48 a.m., when Burnsville officers were called to the area of Millpond Avenue and 117th Street East on report of an assault. Officer arriving on the scene found two men, one of whom had fresh blood on his teeth and gums. Both provided similar accounts of what had happened. 

The pair said they were in a vehicle with an acquaintance, Mohamed, when they began arguing about personal issues. Eventually the dispute became so heated that the driver stopped at 117th Street, at which point Mohamed allegedly exited the car and opened the car door and began pushing one of the men. 

During the exchange Mohamed's hand hit his mouth, causing the bleeding. The two alleged victims ran from the vehicle. They say Mohamed produced a knife and tried to chase them down, yelling threats all the while. At some point during the chase, Mohamed returned to the vehicle and got out a baseball bat. 

The man who had been hit in the face told police that he genuinely felt Mohamed was trying to kill him.  

Mohamed fled the scene in the car before police arrived. When found a short time later, he denied that that the argument had turned physical, or that he'd ever brandished a weapon of any kind.  

Mohamed's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 3.
