A Minneapolis man has been charged with four felonies after police say he stole a car in Burnsville early Monday morning and led them on a high-speed chase, then fled his car and hid in a trash bin.
Jeffrey Michael Super, 29, is charged with first-degree burglary, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine; car theft and possession of methamphetamine, each of which has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine; and fleeing a police officer in a vehicle, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
According to the criminal complaint, Burnsville police were alerted to a stolen car about 12:45 a.m. Monday on Maple Island Road. As they arrived, police spotted the car northbound on Interstate 35W; they activated lights and sirens, but the driver sped up and fled.

Burnsville police were joined by Bloomington police and the Minnesota State Patrol. After an extended chase, at speeds that approached 100 mph, Super stopped the car on the lawn of a Minneapolis home and fled on foot.
Officers set up a perimeter and called in a K9 officer to track Super, who was found hiding in a nearby trash bin. When he was arrested, he was wearing a black sweatshirt, a black hat, black gloves and a black face mask, and had a small bag of methamphetamine, a glass pipe and two credit cards in someone else’s name.

The car’s owner told police that he had left his garage door partly open and went inside to take a nap. He was awakened when he heard something creak; he said he went into the garage and closed the door, then went back inside and heard the garage door open again.
The victim said he went back outside and saw his car being driven away.
Police contacted the owner of the credit cards and learned that her purse had been stolen from her car about 5 p.m. the day before. The purse contained her checkbook, about $325 in cash and credit cards, which Super had in his possession, according to the complaint.
Records showed that someone had tried to use one of the stolen credit cards at two different stores, the complaint says.
Super remained in the Dakota County Jail Friday on a $90,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
