The victim said she had just gotten off the phone with Reed, and they had been discussing her youngest child. She said she and Reed had been involved in a sexual relationship for about a month in 2010, and she had a child in May 2011.
Reed believed that he was the father of the child, and the victim said she had just told him that he wasn’t the child’s father.
As the two discussed a paternity test, Reed became “very angry,” the victim said, calling her names and saying, “[Expletive], I am going to kill you.” He mentioned a gang affiliation, told the victim he would be at her home to “get her” and that he wasn’t afraid to go back to prison, according to the complaint.
The victim told police that she thought Reed – who served four years in prison for a drive-by shooting in 2006 – would follow through on his threats. She said he had sent her a text message reading, “U a [expletive], im a get u on my momma.”
Police tracked down Reed and arrested him. He admitted arguing with the victim and said he was angry and upset to find out that he wasn’t her child’s father. He admitted sending the text message, but said he was “just messing” with the victim and meant only that he planned to get back the money he had given her to help with the child.
