BURNSVILLE, MN — No arrests have been made after five teenage boys were shot at a park in Burnsville Friday night. Police say extra patrols have begun and will continue around the park.

Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in checking any home surveillance video on Friday, Aug. 30 from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

"I appreciate everyone’s patience as this complex investigation continues," Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz said in a statement Wednesday.

"We have dozens of investigators diligently following all available leads. Our crime scene team continues to process evidence and look into all aspects of the scene. When incidents like this happen in our community, we all feel the trauma and loss of our collective sense of safety. We know residents may feel uneasy, and we take seriously our duty to find those responsible and bring them justice. We know our police operations are sometimes hard to understand, but I am confident our officers and partners continue to make the right decisions based on their training and experience. I want to thank the community members who have provided information to date and encourage anyone with additional information to come forward."

At about 8:15 p.m. on Friday, Burnsville police responded to 911 calls of shots fired at Red Oak Park. Officers found four shooting victims, three of who were hospitalized while the fourth was treated and released at the scene.

A fifth victim showed up at the hospital from a private vehicle, police said. The ages of the shooting victims are 16, 17, 18, 18 and 19.

Two of the victims remain hospitalized as of Wednesday.

Some suspects at the scene fled when police arrived, authorities said. The shots were fired toward the basketball court area of the park, according to investigators.

Since Friday's shooting, about 50 witnesses have been interviewed.
