No Causes Ruled Out In Savage Daycare Infant Death Investigation: Police
Savage police and the BCA say the probe remains ongoing after a child died Sept. 22 at Rocking Horse Ranch Childcare.

SAVAGE, MN — Police on Thursday said they are not ruling out any possible causes in the investigation of an infant’s death at Rocking Horse Ranch Childcare, where two babies suffered medical emergencies in the last week.
One infant was hospitalized on Sept. 19 with severe respiratory distress. Another child, also showing similar symptoms, died on Sept. 22, according to state regulators.
The Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families responded by suspending the Savage daycare’s license, citing "an imminent risk of harm to persons served."

"Investigators have interviewed multiple individuals, thoroughly examined the scene, and sent evidence to the laboratory for testing," the police department said. "This investigation is ongoing and comprehensive, and investigators are not ruling out any possible causes."
Police added they will share new information when it becomes available. "Our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time," the release stated. The child’s name will not be released, in accordance with state law.
As part of Tuesday’s suspension order, the daycare is barred from operating and must post a notice of the order for two years, even if it appeals.
Authorities earlier this week also urged parents of children at Rocking Horse Ranch to closely monitor them for "altered mental status, unusual behavioral changes, or other concerning symptoms," and to seek immediate medical care if needed.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Andrew Dahmes at (952) 882-2601.
