Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Eagan area.

EAGAN, MN — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Eagan area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Eagan area:

1. Dakota Woodlands: Previously known as Mary’s Shelter, Eagan-based Dakota Woodlands serves pregnant girls and women as well as single or pregnant homeless women. Community members can donate their time, money, or items to help with the effort.

2. The Open Door: The Open Door in Eagan provides food to low-income people and families in Dakota County. The Open Door gave out 2.6 million pounds of food in 2022, and 64 percent of that was fresh food.

3. Lebanon Hills: Lebanon Hills is a 2,000-acre parking offering miles of trails, lakes, shoreline, and other outdoor recreation spaces. Volunteers can help park staff with invasive species removal, seed collecting, tree and shrub planting, and other activities.

4. Eagan Community Foundation: The Eagan Community Foundation donates scholarships to Eagan's graduating high school seniors and provides community grants to local nonprofits that are working to make Eagan a better place. Residents can contribute by serving on the board, donating money, and other ways.

5. The Rotary Club of Eagan: Eagan's Rotary Club aims to improve the city through local building projects, hosting ethics workshops, recognizing local community leaders for their contributions to the community, and more.
