Dakota County Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch Thursday

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — Dakota County is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Thursday, National Weather Service said.

The county is also under a flood warning, being near both the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, NWS said.

NWS urged drivers to stay off of flooding roads, saying that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

"Rivers are still elevated from rainfall over the past week," NWS said. "Additional rainfall is expected today, continuing the threat; however, the heaviest rain is expected to fall south of the river basins."
