Eagan City Council To Adopt New Budget Dec. 7, Includes Tax Hike

The 2022 budget includes a 3.9 percent levy increase, which translates to a $6-per-month increase for the average home in Eagan.

EAGAN, MN — Homeowners can expect to see their taxes increase when Eagan's new budget takes effect.

Eagan City Council is scheduled to adopt its 2022 budget during the Dec. 7 council meeting, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Eagan City Hall at 3830 Pilot Knob Rd.

In a news release, city officials said the upcoming budget reflects community priorities and standards. However, it also includes a 3.9 percent levy increase, which translates to a $6-per-month increase for the average home ($346,500).

According to the city, the proposed budget increases levels of service in public safety, invests in the city's economy via infrastructure and amenities and sustains the city's natural environment.

“The City of Eagan continues to be a successful city and strong community in addition to having the lowest municipal tax rate in the state,” said Dave Osberg, the city administrator. “The City of Eagan will continue to balance the needs of all who live, work, and play in Eagan.

In addition, the budget includes funding for a racial equity and inclusion assessment in 2022 and a staff person in 2023 to advance racial equity and inclusion efforts not only within the city organization but the entire community of Eagan.

“Residents have shared that they value Eagan’s approach in transparency, honesty, treating all residents fairly, informing, and acting in the best interest of the community," he continued. "We know a strong balance and partnership among our residents, businesses, and the City are what make our community so successful.”
